The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
