The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
