The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 arise and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he thought; 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
