The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 stay away from sins 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
