The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 arise and give warning! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and children living in his presence, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he thought; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
