The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And pollution shun. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
