The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 stay away from sins 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he beheld, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
