The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked around, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
