The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have not appointed any one but angels as keepers of Hell, and their number that We have fixed is to make it a means of contention for disbelievers, so that those who were given the Book may be certain, and the faith of the believers may have greater increase, and the people of the Book and believers may not be deceived, and the sceptics and infidels may say: "What does God mean by this parable?" That is how God leads whosoever He will astray, and guides whosoever He will. None knows the armies of your Lord save Him self. This is no more than reminder for mankind. 31
