The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 purify your garments; 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
