The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 arise, and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
