The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
