The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons present by his side. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
