The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
