The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 shun uncleanness; 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 it will be a hard day 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
