The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
