The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
