The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 May he be condemned! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
