The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 He looked (at others); 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
