The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And your garments purify! 4 And pollution shun. 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 Blackening the skins. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
