The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
