The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
