The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he thought; 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
