The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
