The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 thy robes purify 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
