The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 stay away from sins 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
