The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
