The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
