The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
