The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And your clothing purify 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
