The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
