The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 thy robes purify 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
