The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 May he be condemned! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
