The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
