The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 And pollution shun. 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
