The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 Pollution shun! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he beheld, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
