The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 Pollution shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
