The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 thy robes purify 4 stay away from sins 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
