The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 and defilement flee! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked around, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
