The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
