The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked around, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
