The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 And pollution shun. 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 So that is a tough day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
