The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise and warn, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 Pollution shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
