The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 stay away from sins 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
