The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 thy robes purify 4 and defilement flee! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
