The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 thy robes purify 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
