The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Scorching the skin. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
