The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And your garments do purify, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 May he be condemned! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 frowned and scowled; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
