The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And pollution shun. 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
