The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 and purify your robes, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 So that is a tough day. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he looked, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
